The Benefits of Magnesium
Many animals appear to have extraordinary long lifespans
Many fish appear to live for hundreds of years, the Bowhead whale lives to 300 years and the Greenland shark may live to 400 years. Birds that feed from the ocean also have long lifespans. Some albatross live past 70 years and successfully breed and raise their chicks at this age. The world’s longest-lived multicellular animal, a species of clam (ocean quahog), lives to 500 years or more.
Interestingly, the longest lived humans on Earth, who have been studied extensively over many decades by sociologists, nutritionists and medical researchers, live in close association with the ocean. The ocean and ocean animals contain high levels of magnesium that exist in a soluble, bioavailable form.
Ocean water contains 1.3 grams of magnesium per litre. Squid, octopus, mussels, and jellyfish contain an identical concentration in their body fluids. This is considered to contribute to the long lifespans of animals living in the ocean and to animals and humans consuming ocean-derived food. For more information see How to achieve a long healthy lifespan.
An excellent article on longevity and genetic adaptation arising from conditions in the Pacific Ocean can be located in the world’s top scientific journal Science, Vol.374, 2021. This article identifies the classic markers of ageing including DNA damage, nutrient sensing, immunity, inflammation and chronic inflammation (inflammaging). The article describes that by modifying these factors rock fish can achieve extreme lifespans that exceed 200 years.
Scientific and media articles that connect Magnesium consumption to a long healthy lifespan
Can we reverse or slow the ageing process?
International medical research is currently examining various ways to reverse or slow ageing and hence prevent the diseases, pain, suffering and expense of old age.
Magnesium supplementation overcomes “all-cause mortality” resulting from low serum magnesium
Low serum magnesium is a predictor of “all-cause mortality” including cardiovascular diseases – heart failure, arrhythmia, atherosclerosis, and stroke. Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death in Western nations.
Magnesium supplementation assists in decreasing the infectivity, severity and pathology of viral diseases
Low serum magnesium is associated with inflammation, oxidative stress and insulin resistance. Increased magnesium intake suppresses pathology associated with an inflammatory response.
Magna Aqua
Optimal magnesium absorption occurs when the magnesium is in a soluble and bioavailable form, ingested through water consumption. Magna Aqua is a concentrated soluble bioavailable magnesium with 100% Australian lemon juice.
